Job Description

Remote is seeking multiple Senior Project Managers to support the Department of Home Affairs. The Project Managers will lead and manage ICT project lifecycles, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The successful candidates will have a strong understanding of project management principles, and practices, including the ability to produce high-quality project documentation, lead project implementation and delivery, and effective negotiation and stakeholder engagement. The Project relates to the implementation of ICT in partnership with internal and external delivery providers. (RFI 34-2526)

Role Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage project activities, inputs, and outputs in accordance with Department practices, methods, and standards.
  • Lead and direct cross-functional teams to deliver project objectives.
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities, incorporating them into planning, decision-making, and priority setting.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, team members, and other stakeholders, using influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Analyse project performance, develop strategies to achieve outcomes, and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and prepare project documents, reports, and submissions, including those for higher delegate and committee consideration.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and development opportunities to team members.

Skills:

  • PRMG 5: Takes full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of medium-scale projects. Provides effective leadership to the project team. Adopts appropriate project management methods and tools. Manages the change control process and assesses and manages risks. Ensures that realistic project plans are maintained and delivers regular and accurate communication to stakeholders. Ensures project and product quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure. Ensures that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are formally accepted, by appropriate stakeholders. Monitors costs, times, quality and resources used and takes action where performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
  • REQM 5: establish requirement baselines, ensure formal agreement, and maintain traceability to source, demonstrate authoritative guidance and accountability for significant work outcomes in requirements management. 
  • RLMT 5: Managing, monitoring and improving stakeholder relationships. Determine the relationship management approach to take - including roles and responsibilities, governance, policies, processes, tools and support mechanisms. Getting commitment to action through consultation and consideration of impacts.
  • BENM 5: Ability to select and adapt appropriate methods and tools, negotiate with stakeholders, and contribute to the definition of organisational standards for benefits management.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Prince2 Practitioner Certification.
  • AlPM CPPM and/or CPSPM Certification.
  • One or more of the following:

• Certificate IV Project Management Practice

• Diploma of Project Management

• Advanced Diploma of Project Management

Required knowledge/experience and tools:

  • 5+ years project-related experience in a Project Manager role.
  • Able to apply project management methodologies and practices, e.g. Prince2 and PMBOK.
  • Proficiency using project management tools.
