Job Description

Remote is seeking a Lead Network Security Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and uplift of critical network infrastructure in ASD. The Lead Network Security Engineer role will assess critical infrastructure systems in a collaborative team environment and contribute to specific advice on hardening and defending systems against advanced threats. Role Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and operate network services and systems across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
  • Test, maintain and support network infrastructure, including software and hardware components.
  • Provide input into network requirements, architecture and infrastructure design.
  • Assess complex information systems using contemporary security frameworks, tools and techniques, including an understanding of malicious actor methods and tactics.
  • Work collaboratively to assess critical infrastructure systems and provide advice on hardening and defending networks against advanced threats.

Essential criteria

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in a Cyber role.
  • Ability to implement, maintain and assess and recommend improvement to established network practices.
  • Ability to configure and utilise computer protection components (e.g. hardware firewalls, servers, routers) as appropriate.
  • Ability to assess network security architectures and provide recommendations on improving. Ability to apply defence-in-depth in network design and configuration.
  • Ability to assess network device configurations and provide recommendations on improving network security.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing network communications.

Desirable criteria

  • Skills in computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Skills in communication methods, principles, and concepts that support the network infrastructure; and demonstrated experience in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences both written and verbal.
  • Skills in Information Technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g. firewalls, demilitarised zones, encryption).
  • Experience in using network management tools to analyse network traffic patterns and interpreting the information collected.
