Job Description

Remote is seeking a Lead Data Administrator Data Manager to join the team in ASD, bringing deep technical expertise in database administration across a range of database technologies. The role is accountable for planning, organising, integrating, delivering and sustaining complex databases under broad direction, while maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders. Strong Oracle capability is required, including developing scripts in a Linux enterprise environment, identifying opportunities for automation to improve team efficiency, and industrialising repeatable solutions. Role Description

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Operating system: Linux (shell scripting, crontab)
  • Database: complex PL/SQL, creating and managing pluggable and containerised databases, auditing, scheduler, patching, troubleshooting, proactive monitoring
  • Data Guard set up (multiple configurations including physical standby and logical standby)
  • Oracle database troubleshooting
  • Backup/restore: Flashback and restore points, complex restore and issue solving, Commvault management
  • Security: account creation and privileges management, wallet/key creation and administration, being familiar with OKV
  • Understanding of Oracle Exadata architecture and feature
  • EMCC: setting jobs, debugging output
  • Desirable to be proficient in APEX and Golden Gate
  • Essential to be able to program in one or more of Java/Python/Perl

Essential criteria

  • Ensures that system software is provisioned and configured to facilitate the achievement of service objectives. Evaluates new system software and recommends adoption if appropriate. Plans the provisioning and testing of new versions of system software. Investigates and coordinates the resolution of potential and actual service problems. Ensures that operational procedures and diagnostics for system software are current, accessible and well understood.
  • Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of database administration tools and processes, including automation. Develops and maintains procedures and documentation for databases. Contributes to the setting of standards for definition, security and integrity of database objects and ensures conformance to these standards. Manages database configuration including installing and upgrading software and maintaining relevant documentation. Monitors database activity and resource usage. Optimises database performance and plans for forecast resource needs.
  • Implements physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability. Develops and maintains specialist knowledge of database and data warehouse concepts, design principles, architectures, software and facilities. Assesses proposed changes to object/data structures and evaluates alternative options. Implements data warehouse designs that support demands for business intelligence and data analytics.
  • Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards, tools and basic security practices to achieve a well-engineered result. Reviews own work.

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle products including Oracle database and Oracle APEX.
  • Demonstrated experience with Sybase products including ASE and Replication Server.
