Job Description

Remote is seeking a Business Analyst to join the team in ASD to support DEF102. The Business Analyst will be responsible for working with business stakeholders to develop requirements, whilst maintaining adequate records to validate compliance with approved management planning. The Business Analyst will also contribute to the Branch’s continual service improvement program through assisting stakeholders to optimise their business processes. (LH-04445)

Role Description

The Business Analyst will focus on Technical Requirements Definition and Management to support the design, development, deployment, testing and documentation of solutions in support of Defence Major Project DEF102PH2.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for analysing stakeholder objectives and the underlying issues arising from investigations into business needs problems and opportunities.
  • Develop plans and select appropriate techniques at the correct level of detail to meet assigned objectives.
  • Provide advice and guidance to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Identify potential business benefits and options to realise business improvements.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and subject matter experts to gain commitment to business objectives.
  • Investigate business needs, problems and opportunities and contribute to business improvements.
  • Resolve problems in collaboration with stakeholders taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
  • Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees.
  • Appraise and verify new and updated business outcomes to ensure it meets Defence requirements.

Technical skills:

  • Proven experience in ICT business analysis and process modelling.
  • Ability to work within general guidelines while exercising autonomy and responsibility.
  • Experience in ICT systems testing and acceptance. • Experience in Agile and SAFe principles.
  • Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Prior exposure to the Defence Intelligence Community.

Essential criteria:

  • BSMO 3 - Conversant with techniques covering the full range of modelling situations. Models current and desired scenarios as directed. Selects appropriate modelling techniques for meeting assigned objectives. Gains agreement from subject matter experts on models produced. Reviews resulting models with stakeholders and resolves identified issues.
  • BPRE 5 - Manages the execution of business process improvements. Analyses and designs business processes to identify alternative solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness and exploit new technologies and automation. Develops graphical models of business processes to facilitate understanding and decision-making. Assesses the feasibility of business process changes and recommends alternative approaches. Selects, tailors and implements methods and tools for improving business processes at programme, project or team level. Contributes to the definition of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for business process improvement.
  • BUSA 4 - Investigates business situations where there is some complexity and ambiguity. Adopts holistic view to identify and analyse problems and opportunities. Contributes to the selection of the approach and techniques to be used for business situation analysis. Conducts root cause analysis and identifies recommendations for improvements. Engages and collaborates with operational stakeholders.
  • DTAN 3 - Applies standard data modelling and design techniques based upon a detailed understanding of requirements. Establishes, modifies and maintains data structures and associated components. Communicates the details of data structures and associated components to others using the data structures and associated components.
  • FEAS 3 - Supports option identification and feasibility assessment. Selects and employs standard techniques to get the information required for feasibility assessment. Supports identification of tangible costs and benefits, and development of business cases.
  • REQM 4 - Defines and manages scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for initiatives of medium size and complexity. Contributes to selecting the requirements approach. Facilitates input from stakeholders, provides constructive challenge and enables effective prioritisation of requirements. Establishes requirements base-lines, obtains formal agreement to requirements, and ensures traceability to source.

Desirable criteria:

  • RLMT 4 - Deals with problems and issues, managing resolutions, corrective actions, lessons learned, and the collection and dissemination of relevant information. Implements stakeholder engagement/communications plan. Collects and uses feedback from customers and stakeholders to help measure the effectiveness of stakeholder management. Helps develop and enhance customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • UNAN 3 - Applies standard techniques and tools for developing user stories and eliciting user experience requirements. Organises and structures user experience analysis. Works with stakeholders to prioritise requirements and resolve conflicts.

  • Whilst the role requires the successful candidate to be onsite, work from home can be accommodated in a limited capacity.
