Job Description

Remote is seeking a Senior Software Developer (LOR5) to join the team at the Department of Home Affairs. The role provides technical leadership across the design, build and operation of modern web applications that support critical business workflows. It works closely with cross-functional teams to shape solutions at the intersection of technology, process and business outcomes, and drives continuous feedback and iteration to improve delivery quality. The Senior Software Developer also supports engineering uplift through mentoring, peer review and strong engineering practices, contributing to a tight-knit, supportive and inclusive culture. Role Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Build End-to-End Solutions – Lead the development and maintenance of scalable web applications, delivering clean, testable code that meets functional requirements.
  • Implement and evolve API layers – Define and guide REST/GraphQL API development, applying secure gateway patterns.
  • Containerise and deploy services – Own and improve containerisation and deployment practices.
  • Ensuring data integrity and performance – Drive improvements to data integrity and performance across the solution.
  • Participate in Agile delivery and development processes – Shape delivery through refinement, estimation and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise production systems – Lead incident troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and ongoing optimisation.

Required Knowledge

  • 3+ years full stack C#/.NET and React/TypeScript development experience.
  • Proficiency with REST/GraphQL API development and secure gateway patterns.
  • Solid background in resilience and background-processing patterns and frameworks.
  • Experience with Entity Framework, SQL Server, and Elasticsearch.
  • Hands-on containerised service deployment on Kubernetes with Helm.
  • Familiar with agile development tools including JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience with version control and Cl/CD development, including GitLab.
