Job Description

Remote is seeking a Senior System Administrator to join the team in one of our Commonwealth clients. The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for the design, deployment and operational management of containerised data processing environments and applications. The primary focus of this role is the delivery, management and support of open-source applications and the underlying Kubernetes (K8) infrastructure to ensure scalability and resilience. The administrator will manage the end-to-end data ingestion lifecycle and lead DevOps initiatives to automate manual workflows, ensuring that systems are secure, efficient and highly available. Working in a diverse team environment, this will involve sharing outcomes and experience with others to support development and growth.

This role sits in a dynamic team responsible for the development, sustainment and enhancement of capabilities that underpin critical systems that support the Organisation’s forensic analysis capability. The team employs contemporary and innovative tools and techniques to automate the ingestion of data into Enterprise Data Platforms. Part of the role will be ensuring that all development is in line with standard engineering and technical approaches employed by the team, and that risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented. Role Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimise Kubernetes-based environments to host and scale applications.
  • Build and maintain robust data ingestion and processing flows, ensuring data integrity and system stability.
  • Identify bottlenecks in manual processes and deliver automated solutions using Python and Ansible to improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage cluster security, including access controls (RBAC), secret management, and the implementation of security best practices.
  • Proactively monitor system health, resource utilisation, and data flow performance to minimise downtime and optimise throughput.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex system issues and collaborate with analysts to deliver bespoke data integration and presentation solutions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, deployment blueprints, and operational playbooks: track work in collaboration tools such.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in a technology field.

Required Knowledge/Experience and tools

  • 3+ years of relevant System Administrator or DevOps experience
  • Scripting and programming capabilities, primarily in Python.

  • Strong experience in the deployment, configuration, and management of Kubernetes (KBs) clusters and containerised workloads.
  • Proven ability to deploy and maintain complex open-source projects including managing their specific dependencies and configurations.
  • Experience designing and managing data ingestion pipelines and the underlying infrastructure required to process large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Proficiency with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Python
  • Experience implementing DevOps practices, including the creation and maintenance of Cl/CD pipelines.
  • Superior analytical skills with a proven track record of resolving complex system challenges in distributed environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional technical teams.
