Job Description

Remote is seeking skilled Solution Architects to support Home Affairs in driving change and shaping the future of its technology landscape. Working as part of a centralised enterprise architecture team, the Solution Architects will provide guidance and support to technology work programs and technical teams, ensuring solutions align with the Department’s intended future state.

The role will use practical experience with complex technology environments to develop forward-looking architecture strategy and design that supports business objectives, technology strategy and investment decisions. The Solution Architects will contribute across a broad range of technology-driven initiatives, identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities to support an assured and cohesive approach to technology delivery.

The role will also require strong collaboration across technical teams and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners to support partner enablement and consistent architecture outcomes. (RFI 54-2526)

Role Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture outcomes from the centre to ensure a strategic approach to the Department’s investment in technology and the cohesive delivery of technology products and services.
  • Ensure all proposed technical solutions align with the Department’s Enterprise Architecture and are consistent with future technology roadmaps and planned transition to cloud.
  • Coordinate and develop a repository of key architectural artefacts such as reference architectures, standards, guidelines, and reference models which serve as blueprints for technology product delivery.
  • Drive and influence discussions around emerging trends, new technologies, and innovative approaches relevant to our strategic direction and evolve our technology landscape over time to meet changing demands effectively.
  • Identify and escalate architectural risks, issues and critical dependencies that threaten delivery of capability.
  • Build partnerships and collaborate with internal business and IT stakeholders along with external partners from other agencies

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering-related discipline

Required Knowledge/Experience and tools

  • Demonstrated 7+ years of hands-on work experience in a system/platform technical design, software development or system/platform administration field.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, including communicating technical and architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in analysing business and technical requirements to provide strategic guidance and support decision making.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering multiple lines of tasking in a resource constrained environment.
  • An eagerness to learn and inspire others.
  • Ability to think critically and respectfully contest ideas to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Resilience and drive to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve outcomes.
