Job Description
Remote is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join to the team at ASD. The Business Analyst will support the development and sustainment of complex, technology‑enabled capabilities, within cyber security and cloud‑based environments. The role requires strong business analysis and systems engineering capability, including the ability to elicit, analyse, prioritise and document complex business and technical requirements. The role works closely with business areas to define and validate requirements, translating business needs into detailed, high‑quality, developer‑ready artefacts suitable for agile delivery. The Business analyst will be creating, iterating and maintaining business analysis artefacts that describe the organisation’s future state, objectives and drivers; managing the currency of analysis artefacts, tasks and documentation in Jira and Confluence; developing test cases; supporting system and user acceptance testing; and engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders in technically complex environments. Role Description
Key duties and responsibilities
- Lead stakeholder engagement across business and technical domains to elicit, analyse, prioritise, and validate clear, testable requirements aligned to business objectives.
- Drive alignment and decision making through effective communication, facilitation of workshops, and influencing stakeholders on requirements and solution direction.
- Produce high quality, structured analysis artefacts (e.g. BRDs, process models, use cases, operating models), ensuring they are clear, fit for purpose, and maintainable.
- Maintain end to end traceability from business needs through solution design, controls, and testing, ensuring requirements are validated against agreed acceptance criteria.
- Support delivery and assurance activities by developing test artefacts, contributing to security and risk documentation, and producing audit ready outputs for governance and accreditation (including ATO).
- Collect and analyse performance and operational data to inform decisions, continuous improvement, and future state design.
- Maintain accurate and current documentation across delivery tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence) and ensure effective knowledge transfer and system sustainment.
- Apply best practice business analysis methodologies, tools, and techniques, contributing to consistent, high quality outcomes within multidisciplinary teams
Technical skills
- 5+ years business analysis on complex projects and programs User centred design, including data driven and machine based approaches Requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation and validation Development of BA artefacts (use cases, process maps, personas, models, traceability, test plans)
- Strong analytical problem solving in fast paced delivery environments Clear communication across technical and non technical stakeholders Excels in fast-paced environments, managing priorities
Essential criteria
- Business Analysis Capability (Minimum 5 years’ experience) Demonstrated delivery of high‑quality, end‑to‑end business analysis outcomes in complex environments. Evidence includes rigorous stakeholder engagement; clear, structured, and testable requirements; and full traceability from business need through design, controls, and testing. Applies data‑driven analysis to inform decisions and risk management. Produces and governs documentation that is fit for purpose, maintainable, and audit‑ready. Supports system accreditation activities, including development of security artefacts such as system descriptions, control mappings, and risk documentation. Translates complex technical information into clear, concise outputs for varied audiences and provides sound advice on methodologies, tools, and techniques aligned to context, risk, and delivery objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality business analysis artefacts that are clear, structured, and fit for purpose. Selects and applies appropriate artefact types—such as requirements documentation, process models, use cases, operating models, business cases, and analysis plans—to support understanding, decision‑making, and delivery. Ensures outputs are consistent, testable, and aligned to standards, with sufficient detail to support traceability, assurance, and audit requirements. Structures complex information into concise, usable formats and uplifts existing documentation to improve quality, coherence, and maintainability. Uses productivity tools effectively, with tool choice driven by context.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex business and technical information clearly and influence outcomes. Identifies and engages stakeholders, builds effective working relationships, and manages differing perspectives to achieve alignment. Facilitates workshops, interviews, and structured discussions to elicit insights, challenge assumptions, and enable informed decisions. Produces concise outputs capturing key outcomes, decisions, and actions, ensuring shared understanding across audiences. - Demonstrated capability to deliver secure, compliant outcomes in cyber security and/or AWS environments, applying ISM, PSPF, or equivalent frameworks, adapting to changing accreditation requirements, and collaborating effectively with technical stakeholders.
