Job Description
Remote is seeking a Junior Network Infrastructure Engineer to join the team in ASD. The Junior Infrastructure Engineer will contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a complex ICT environment containing both CISCO and Juniper based networking systems, as well as Cryptographic Networking devices and with guidance, monitor the reliability of systems using standard procedures and tools to carry out defined system configuration, backups and restoring data where necessary. This includes the use of network management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics. (LH-07050)
Role Description
Key duties and responsibilities
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a complex ICT environment containing both CISCO and Juniper based networking systems, as well as Cryptographic Networking devices.
- With guidance, monitor the reliability of systems using standard procedures and tools to carry out defined system configuration, backups and restoring data where necessary. This includes the use of network management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics.
- With guidance, capture and respond to incidents, problems and changes within the IT service management platform. This includes administration of accounts and permissions.
- Contribute to the identification of operational problems and contribute to their resolution.
- Assist in documenting existing and new features and processes related to system support and enhancement.
Technical skills
- Experience in administering CISCO and/or Juniper networking systems and core ICT network infrastructure.
- Experience in monitoring network infrastructure, using tools such as Solarwinds, CICSO Transport Controller and SPLUNK
Essential criteria
- IT infrastructure: Level 3 (SFIA)
Provisions/installs, configures and maintains infrastructure services and components. Monitors, measures and reports on infrastructure load, performance and security events. Identifies operational issues and contributes to their resolution. Carries out agreed operational procedures, including backup/restore, using supplied infrastructure tools and scripts. Carries out agreed system software maintenance tasks. Automates routine system administration tasks to specifications using standard tools and basic scripting.
- Programming/software development: Level 2 (SFIA)
Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result. Reviews own work.
- Systems installation and removal: Level 3 (SFIA)
Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools, including handover to the client. Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to test installations, correct problems, and document results. Records details of all components that have been installed and removed. Assists users and follows agreed procedures for further help or escalation. Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
