Job Description

Remote is seeking Front-end developer / User interface Designers to support ongoing major projects across the Corporate and Digital Division in the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR). The role will be responsible for driving a human-centric approach to service delivery, focusing on understanding customer, business, and technology needs and balancing these to deliver effective digital services. Candidates are required to have a dual skillset, working across both disciplines to deliver intuitive, fit for purpose interfaces through a lean design process involving rapid prototyping, testing, and implementation of solutions.  Candidates will work in multi-disciplinary teams to design and develop product improvements, features, user flows, user interfaces, and front-end development.  (LH-06082)

Role Description

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Help define user-centric designs, iterate and improve to add additional value, based on user feedback 
  • Be responsible for user-focused UI designs and specification of user flows, prototypes, high-fidelity interfaces 
  • Plan and perform user experience evaluation to check and confirm that usability and accessibility requirements have been met 
  • Implement UI component using HTML/CSS and JavaScript Work closely with the team’s user researcher and designers to translate findings from usability testing into improvements for the user interface 
  • Advocate and problem solve for user-centric design solutions with developers and coach back-end engineers on usability and front-end development 
  • As a UI Designer, you will tackle complex problems and transform them into intuitive and easy-to-use designs. Then, communicate them by user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.   
  • As a Front-end developer, you will work with developers translating and problem-solving designs, POC and wireframes into modules and high-quality codes for the best usability and accessibility outcomes. 

Technical skills

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience implementing responsive UI components for web applications and websites using HTML/CSS, ReactJS and/or Angular Experience using prototyping tools such as Adobe XD, Axure or Figma is highly desirable
  • Understanding and application of design principles and systems
  • Understanding and implementation of WCAG 2.1 level AA guidelines as a minimum, how those guidelines relate to websites and applications, and how visual design, page and code structures

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces working within to an existing style guide and/or design system using HTML, CSS, and Javascript framework such as ReactJS, and/or Angular.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work with and influence multiple stakeholders, and clearly articulate design decisions through a well-conceived rationale.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with others to translate findings from usability testing into actionable improvements to a user interface.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Accessibility requirements - Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA as a minimum.

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrated experience designing wireframes, user interfaces, and interactive prototypes with a high attention to detail and ability to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate designs.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a design or computer science/ICT related discipline (Human Factors, Communication/Graphic Design, Systems Design, Psychology, Computer Interaction, Web development etc.)

  • Due to the requirement for immediate access to PROTECTED information and systems, personnel proposed for this role must hold a current Baseline security clearance at commencement.
