Job Description
Remote is seeking a RHEL Infrastructure Engineer to join the team in ASD. The RHEL Infrastructure Engineer will support the development, operation and continuous improvement of secure, scalable and highly available Red Hat Enterprise Linux server environments supporting enterprise workloads and virtualised infrastructure.
The role will involve developing and operating integrated RHEL server platforms, testing and certifying new operating system versions, building and maintaining system images, and supporting integration with VMware, MFA, management tools and security configurations. The RHEL Infrastructure Engineer will also contribute to server automation, backup and recovery services, system health checks, troubleshooting and server migration activities as required. (LH-06911)
Role Description
Key duties and responsibilities
- Develop and operate an integrated RHEL server platform.
- Test and certify new versions of the RHEL operating system, build and maintain system images and provide integration for VMWare.
- Integrate and support management and security software and configurations.
- Provide server automation.
- Integrate with MFA solutions.
- Implement regular checks to confirm system status, including hardware and software.
- Develop and operate a backup and recovery service for virtualised RHEL systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve RHEL issues
- Manage server migration when required.
Technical skills
- Demonstrated experience with RHEL systems.
Essential criteria
- Availability management: Level 4 (SFIA)
Analyses service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability. Contributes to the availability management process and its operation. Performs defined availability management tasks. Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels. Implements arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures. Conducts testing of recovery procedures.
- IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA)
Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.
- Problem management: Level 3 (SFIA)
Investigates problems in systems, processes and services. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
- Systems installation and removal: Level 4 (SFIA)
Undertakes or supervises complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client. Develops procedures and standards for installation and handover to maintain and improve the installation service. Schedules installation work around client priorities and resource availability. Ensures adherence to established safety and quality procedures.
