Job Description

Remote is seeking a Software Developer to join the team in ASD. The Software Developer will enhance and support automation capability for existing systems and recommend/design new structures and tools, which meet business requirements and take into account the target environment and integrate COTS and GOTS software. The Software Developer will have demonstrated experience in development languages/frameworks such as Python, Java and demonstrated experience using Puppet, Ansible and Docker automation tools. Role Description

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Enhance and support automation capability for existing systems and recommend/design new structures and tools, which meet business requirements and take into account the target environment. 
  • Integrate COTS and GOTS software. 
  • Translate logical designs into physical designs and integrate software employing an Agile Software Development Methodology. 
  • Monitor systems and infrastructure; and provide assistance with support requests to fix and troubleshoot issues. 
  • Implement and maintain automated testing and provide feedback on implementation and design aspects as required. 
  • Database design and implementation for operational systems. 
  • Develop complex programs using a variety of software languages and development environment. 

Technical skills

  • Demonstrated experience in development languages/frameworks such as Python, Java.
  • Demonstrated experience using Puppet, Ansible and Docker automation tools.
  • Demonstrated experience using React.

Essential criteria

  • Programming/software development: Level 4 (SFIA)

Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors complex programs/scripts and integration software services. Contributes to the selection of the software development methods, tools and techniques. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve well-engineered outcomes. Participates in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.

  • Release and deployment: Level 4 (SFIA)

Assesses and analyses release components for input to release scheduling. Maintains and administers tools and methods for software delivery, deployment and configuration. Maintains release processes and procedures.

  • Software design: Level 3 (SFIA)

Undertakes complete design of moderately complex software applications or components. Applies agreed standards, guidelines, patterns and tools. Assists as part of a team in the design of components of larger software systems. Specifies user and/or system interfaces. Creates multiple design views to address the different stakeholders' concerns and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Assists in the evaluation of options and trade-offs. Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.

  • Systems integration and build: Level 4 (SFIA)

Provides technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing. Collaborates with technical teams to develop and agree system integration plans and report on progress. Defines complex/new integration builds. Ensures that integration test environments are correctly configured. Designs, performs and reports results of tests of the integration build. Identifies and documents system integration components for recording in the configuration management system. Recommends and implements improvements to processes and tools.
