Job Description

Remote is seeking multiple Infrastructure Architects (Engineering Managers) to support ASD in designing, implementing and evolving the infrastructure (on-premises and cloud) that support their IT systems. The Engineering Managers will demonstrate an extensive understanding of engineering methodologies, systems and procedures, with the ability to translate this in to strategy. The Engineering Managers will be accountable for leading work teams, planning and managing resources and exercising technical delegations on behalf of technical authorities. The Engineering Managers will be responsible for planning, resourcing and implementing a quality management system and coordinating Test and Evaluation activities to support project delivery. Role Description

This role will champion the project’s engineering management approach, along with quality management processes which consider the appropriate legal and compliance frameworks within ASD. This role is a key part of the JP2289 leadership team, working to the Project Director, to manage activities related to the capability delivery systems lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design process and communication of high level structures to enable the development of solutions that meets current and future project needs.
  • Establish engineering governance and reporting processes within the agreed framework to enable the Executive to make timely decisions on the key areas affecting schedule, cost and quality.
  • Develop, implement and manage the engineering artefacts which delivers capabilities required to enable the project direction.
  • Manage project level engineering risks and issues escalated to the program by supervisors, peers, business stakeholders and/or project managers.
  • Author, present Executive level information and decision briefs on engineering and quality management issues as required.
  • Manage engineering resources based on priorities, budget, risk and Executive direction.

Technical skills:

  • Accountable for providing leadership and direction to ensure a high-level of integration and consistency across ASD engineering, project functions and other Defence projects.
  • Work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and influence the work of teams to ensure successful delivery of project, system or platform outputs.

Essential criteria:

  • QUMG 6: Achieves and maintains compliance against national and international standards, as appropriate. Prioritises areas for quality improvement by considering strategy, business objectives and results from internal and external audits. Initiates the application of appropriate quality management techniques in these areas. Initiates improvements to processes by changing approaches and working practices, typically using recognised models. Identifies and plans systematic corrective action to reduce errors and improve the quality of the systems and services.
  • DESN 6: Develops and drives adoption of and adherence to organisational policies, standards, guidelines, and methods for system design. Champions the importance and value of system design principles and the selection of appropriate systems design life cycle models. Leads system design activities for strategic, large and complex systems development programmes. Develops effective implementation strategies consistent with specified requirements, architectures and constraints of performance and feasibility. Develops system design requiring the introduction of new technologies or new uses for existing technologies.
  • REQM 5: Plans and drives scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for large, complex initiatives. Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate requirements definition and management methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to the development of organisational methods and standards for requirements management. Obtains input from, and agreement to requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders. Negotiates with stakeholders to manage competing priorities and conflicts. Establishes requirements baselines. Ensures changes to requirements are investigated and managed.
  • SINT 5: Plans and drives activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes to create a robust integration framework. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of systems integration. Leads integration work in line with the agreed system and service design. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Measures and monitors applications of standards. Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for systems integration.
