Information &
Communications Technology
Virtually all of our assignments involve the
various facets of ICT. Some
examples are listed here, but you'll see relevant projects listed elsewhere on
this site, for instance, in the areas of Systems & Software Engineering,
Acquisition and Tender Evaluation.

Project Bonfire: Upgrade
of corporate PC environment for DSD
Remote provided the services for specification,
tender evaluation and project management for the upgrade of this PC environment,
accredited to TS level. Resulted in the installation of 700+ PCs and 20+
servers. Involved early adoption of Microsoft Vista.

Softel
Systems: Telecommunications Carrier - Traffic Monitoring
Australian telecommunications
companies are required, under the Telecommunications Act (1979), to meet various
regulatory requirements to retain their licence to act as a telecommunications
carrier. Softel Systems provides these requisite capabilities for the emerging
mobile packet data for a major Australian telecommunications company.
Remote has provided assistance in
the development, implementation and support of the Softel Systems system known
as LIPs. Activities have included specification of the interface between LIPs
and a related system under development within the Telco, production of the LIPs
user manual, LIPs Site Specific Notes and the development of the service level
agreement and performance metrics for the LIPs system.

IT Services
Department, Hong Kong SAR Government: Security Procedures & Policy
Review
This assignment involved
independent review and augmentation of reports produced by information security
consultants for the Information Technology Services Department of the Hong Kong
SAR Government. The examination and revision covered aspects including policies,
standards, procedures, security management framework, and the roles,
responsibilities and reporting arrangements for various bodies including the IT
Services Department's security working team, the organisation's ISIRT
(Information Security Incident Response Team) and the security steering
committee.

Major International Airport: Airport Pavement Management System
Remote, teamed with engineering consultants Connell Wagner and companies, has recently completed the specification of an Airport Pavement
Management System (APaMS) for a major international airport. This airport has
extensive air and land pavement assets and
requires a better means to conduct the management and maintenance. An integrated product is to be produced, supporting management,
maintenance, economic and technical analyses and forecasting. This is to support the recording of all historical pavement data
(construction, maintenance, testing, inspections, costs, etc) against the
airport configuration, with full spatial data support.
ARRB Transport
Research Limited: Road Network-Level Survey Management System
Remote provided IT development services for ARRB Transport
Research to provide a data management system to support total road survey data
for national-level surveys. ARRB
Transport Research was contracted to survey 37,000km of roads throughout
Indonesia, collecting information including road geometry data (centreline,
gradient, horizontal curvature, vertical curvature, etc), road condition data
(road roughness, texture, rutting, deflection, pavement depth, etc), and ongoing
digital image collection. This data
was collected by multiple instrumented vehicles, travelling at highway speeds.
In its initial
project, the system was additionally required to export database files for
incorporation into the Inter-urban Road Management System (IRMS) Database used
by the Indonesian Bina Marga Roads Department. The completed database comprised 30Gb of processed data defining the
attributes at any position throughout the road network, plus 16 million images.
Efforts performed
entailed the project management, specification, design, implementation and
documentation of the database management system for this data collection
exercise.
This successful
project resulted in a contract extension by the Indonesian Government, for the
survey of a further 20,000km of roads in additional Indonesian provinces.

Nortel
Networks: Merrill Lynch Pan-Asia Network
Remote provided
consultancy services in the development of an Acceptance Test Plan for Nortel
Networks, who in turn were contracted by Cable & Wireless Global, the prime
contractor implementing a voice and data network for Merrill Lynch throughout
the Asia-Pacific region. This
network spans Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, China,
Taiwan, Indonesia and links to the US, covering more than 20 Merrill Lynch
sites.
ARRB Transport Research Limited: WIMLINK
Remote was requested to provide Project Management services
to ARRB Transport Research in the development of ARRB’s WIMLINK automated data
collection system.
This system is used by State Road Authorities to conduct
‘weigh-in-motion’ surveys of vehicles as they traverse the road system, and
is used in numerous locations within Australia, sometimes in quite isolated
regions. Remote, upon involvement,
was able to turn around what had been a faltering project.
